Kasetsart University is a public university in Thailand and has served a hub of knowledge and research.It was the first agricultural university and the third oldest university in Thailand. Over the course of 70 years Kasetsart University has acquired a vast body of reference and research materials. Currently ranked in the 651-700 tranche in the QS World University Rankings 2015/16 and in the top five leading universities of Thailand.
Established in February 1943, its original goal was to promote subjects related to agricultural science. Since then, the university has expanded its subject areas to cover science, arts, social sciences, humanities, education, engineering, and architecture. The university also intends to include medicine and health sciences in the future. Kasetsart University has four campuses;Bang Khen, Kampaeng Saen, Chalermprakiat and Sri Racha. With approximately 67,000 students enrolled it is Thailand's largest university.
The University's official emblem depicts Phra Phirun aka Varuna the god of rain, atop a Nāga, a mythological serpent of gigantic proportions, inclosed by a ring of by lotus petals. The emblem also contains the date of the University's establishment.
On 29 November 1963 their Majesties the King and Queen of the Kingdom of Thailand planted nine Nonsri (Peltophorum pterocarpum) or commonly known as the yellow flame-tree, yellow poinciana, or yellow-flame, trees in front of the university’s auditorium . These flamboyant yellow trees have ever since come to represent the University as its official tree.
The University also has an official colour - Green.
